The former danish social and integrations’ minister Karen Hækkerup will replace Magnus Ranstorp as the chair of the board of Nordic Safe Cities.
Karen Hækkerup is the new chairwoman of the board of Nordic Safe Cities. 48 year old Hækkerup replaces Magnus Ranstorp, who will continue as vice chairman.
Hækkerup has vast experience from a long career in danish politics serving as minister on three occasions.
Her most recent position was as the General Secretary of Unicef Denmark which she left earlier this year.
Now she is excited to enter the position as chairwoman of the board of Nordic Safe Cities, whose work towards enhancing the cohesion and inclusion in the Nordics attracted her to take the position.
“I am proud of the trust the board of Nordic Safe Cities has shown me. The work of Nordic Safe Cities is really close to my heart because it revolves around the safety of every citizen.” Karen Hækkerup says.
“When radicalization, hate speech and discrimination get to flourish, it doesn’t only affect the victims of attacks, it has a negative effect on society as a whole. The Nordic values are the reason we’re all living in safety and they must never be taken for granted.”
“The Nordic Council of Ministers founded the Nordic Safe Cities alliance after the terrorist attack in Copenhagen and its purpose is, unfortunately, even more important today than ever,” says Karen Hækkerup.
The executive director of Nordic Safe Cities, Jeppe Albers, is looking forward to working with Karen Hækkerup and make use of her profound knowledge and experience from politics and the private sector.
“I’m ever so pleased that Karen Hækkerup is the new chairwoman. The drive and ideas that she has for the future of Nordic Safe Cities will most definitely lead us to new exciting grounds,” says Jeppe Albers.
Rostoft also enters the board
Karen Hækkerup isn’t the only new member of the board of Nordic Safe Cities though.
The Deputy Mayor of the Norwegian city of Kristiansand, Erik Rostoft, will also join our board.
Rostoft has a degree in business economics and has previously worked as independent consultant in organizational development, management, personnel development and board work. He has also worked as the general manager of Sørlandsparken Næringsforening.
Rostoft will be the representative of the member cities of Nordic Safe Cities on the board.
