In December 2019, Nordic Safe Cities gathered mayors, politicians, and leaders from +20 Nordic cities. At this summit we celebrated all the projects and initiatives that have been initiated in Nordic Safe Cities in 2019 and it was a springboard for new and closer collaborations across the Nordic region.
At the Summit, the 5 Nordic Capital Mayors laid down their support for the alliance in black and white, as they signed the Capital Code of Action. All Nordic capital mayors demonstrated their capital cities’ aims and commitments to continuously create safe societies in cooperation with Nordic Safe Cities, and to strengthen the collaboration between the Nordic capital cities of Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and Reykjavik.
In 2020 Nordic Safe Cities will continue to support innovation and knowledge sharing between the capital cities. Mayor in Copenhagen, Cecilia Lonning-Skovgaard, explains why this alliance is so important:
“This is an excellent forum for Copenhagen to show our visions and to support other Nordic cities in our mutual efforts to build strong, democratic communities by standing together against hatred and extremism.”
Cecilia Lonning-Skovgaard, Mayor, Copenhagen
