Yngve Carlsson

Safe City Advisor

Sociologist Yngve Carlsson is Managing Director at Carlsson Kompetanse A/S. Prior to this he was a special advisor at the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS), where he, amongst other things, conducted studies in the complexity of the foreign fighter phenomenon and the role of Norwegian municipalities in coping with this and violent and Islamic extremism.

 He has also been a researcher at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (NIBR), where he focused on themes such as early intervention with violent and racist youth groups. He is now working as consultant at C-REX on a research project focusing on the hate and threats towards minorities and politicians.

In his role as Nordic Safe Cities Advisor, Yngve contributes with years of experience within crime prevention and safety in a Nordic context. He has complex understanding of the Nordic institutions and history of crime prevention. He is using this experience to help cities design and evaluate initiatives for prevention of extremist hate and violence. Yngve has also worked together with Nordic Safe Cities on developing the Safe City Loop model, to help cities register results, learnings, and processes from their projects.
